2025 Redistricting with L2

“Redistricting arms race” was the subject line in Wednesday’s Politico Playbook, and as time passes, it seems to be becoming truer and truer.

Speaking about redistricting earlier this month, President Trump said, “There could be some other states we’re going to get another three, or four or five in addition. Texas would be the biggest one.” he said. “Just a simple redrawing we pick up five seats.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has embraced national Democrats’ redistricting countermove. Democrats wield supermajorities in California, and new lines could add more seats to an already-lopsided 43-9 congressional majority.

Other Democratic states discussing redistricting include NY, NJ, and MD, along with Democratic gerrymandering cases in GA, SC, and UT.  On the Republican side, OH and IN.  More states are discussing this every day.

How does L2 handle redistricting?

Helping Draw the Lines: L2 data and DataMapping are used by redistricting commissions, state legislatures, Governor’s offices, and advocacy organizations to draw, analyze and scrutinize newly proposed districts.

Litigating the Lines: L2 data serves as a ‘source of truth’ regarding the electorate and is utilized nationwide to support or refute lines in states where districts are contested.

Proposed Districts: After the newly proposed lines are revealed and appear likely to be adopted, L2 will use the publicly available shape files to provide a best first look at voters in those districts in L2 DataMapping and as part of our taxonomy.  Get DataMapping today.

Zip-to-District: For platforms and organizations seeking to target current, proposed, and new districts broadly, L2 offers a Zip-to-District product. Users receive rolling updates with Zip, Zip+2, and Zip+4 tables for US Congressional and State Legislative Districts. We will provide separate outputs for proposed and new districts. Contact L2 to learn more.

New Districts: Finalized “new” US Congressional and state legislative districts will be available alongside the current districts in which lawmakers are serving. These new districts will be available in L2’s taxonomy, Snowflake, LiveRamp, and L2 DataMapping.
